Coyote Women Get NSCAA Team Academic Award


The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has awarded Cal State San Bernardino Women's Soccer team with the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2009 season.

In order to get this award the program must maintain a team average GPA of 3.0 or above for all three quarters of the school year. In 2009/2010, the Coyote Women posted a team GPA of 3.01 including 21 of the 35 student athletes with GPA's above a 3.0. In the Fall of 2009, the team had 10 Leaders of the Pack award recipiants (GPA's above a 3.5) and had 6 student athletes named to the ALL CCAA Academic Team.

Jani Carmona Named 2nd Team All-West Region

HILO, Hawaii -- Sophomore F Jani Carmona was named to the 2010 Daktronics NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-West Region second-team, the organization announced Tuesday.

The Daktronics teams are selected by the NCAA Division II West Region sports information directors.

Carmona, who was a second-team All-CCAA selection this fall, was impressive in her first season for coach Travis Clarke. The Hawaii Hilo transfer led the Coyotes in several offensive categories including: goals (15), assists (6), points (36), shots (67), SOG (35) and game-winning goals (3).

Her 15 goals are the third most in a single season in CSUSB history.

The Coyotes completed their season with their third consecutive winning season at 9-8-1 overall -- a first in the history of the sport.

Coyotes Ranked #10 in West Region Final Poll

The Coyote Women's Soccer team ended the regular season with a 9-8-1 overall record that was good enough to be ranked #10 in the Far West Region by the NSCAA.

The CSUSB women's soccer team was ranked as high as #2 in the West Region and #13 in Nation in 2010.

Gudgeon Named Team MVP

Kelsey Gudgeon was named the CSUSB Women's Soccer Most Valuable Player last week at the end of the year awards banquet. Congratulations Kelsey.
